Week One Reading-Key to Changing the Teaching Profession

Did the article (Professional Learning 2.0) change your view point about a specific technology or technology in general, being used in the schools? Do you think it would be effective? ( A typical school requires all teachers to meet for a staff meeting once a week for a minimum of an hour )

  1. I think technology definetly has its place in the school setting today. Teachers may not always have the time to attend conferences or to listen to speakers. Also, information heard at thos places may be forgotton. Technology allows teahers to communicatrd ideas without having to physically be there. It also allows easy access to the ideas as refreshers to the memory. I feel technology combined withg staff meetings is the best one two puch to constantly circulate ideas and keep things fresh. Also, teachers will have the ability to communicate with each other readily at any time.

  2. I think that technology needs to have a place in the school setting. Most teachers are willing to try new technological advances like smart boards and projectors because it is less of a hassle than grabbing the big hulking overhead. Instead of having to go explain an idea to a fellow coworker the teacher can email. I think that it is difficult to gather all the new ideas into a cohesive plan that will work because stuff happens in schools and some teachers don't want to change how they do things possibly because they are stuck in their ways or they feel they have to learn. The more changes there are technologically the more teachers have to be flexible in how they approach the learning of their students. If professional days as well as staff meetings help teachers gather information needed to keep students attention primarily with technology I think it is a good idea for them to utilize the information.

  3. This article opened my eyes to the possibilities of collaborating with other professionals in the teaching field. Not only is technology in the classroom beneficial to students, but it can create a foundation for professional development. I liked the idea of Web 2.0 because it allows teachers to contribute as well as gain knowledge. It reminds me that, as teachers, we are constantly growing and learning from our students and from the changing world around us. What it reminds us is that technology in the classroom is not only about using technology to provide information to the students, it's about being able to use technology to support our own knowledge and creativity as well. I feel like it could enhance meetings by helping with efficiency and create references for later educational purposes.

  4. Technology is an essential part of the field of education. This article really showed me how much social networking can really help me grow as a teacher when I have a job. Whenever I will need help or insite I will know I will have sources to help me out. I also know I will be able to also share my ideas to my fellow professionals and get their input.

  5. I think all educators need to make an effort to understand and utilize technology as it becomes available. It is our primary goal to prepare our students for the real world that looms in the not-too-distant future. Technology is sure to only become MORE ingrained in our culture, so we need to consider ourselves responsible for teaching technology to our students. I really like the idea of creating and maintaining a classroom wiki.

  6. I think that including the most recent technology available in my classroom is very important. As a physical education teacher students these days are drawn to the new up and coming technologies. This means that we not only have to educate our students but we have to educate ourselves as well. Staying up to date with new technologies can have a strong effect on participation level, behavior management, and teacher student relationships.

  7. I believe that today with all the information one gets thrown in a day
along with all of lifes other situations technology is a good thing to
have in schools system as a organization tool. Teachers and schools can
post important ideas or upcoming events not only for themselves but
also for parents. When a teacher is at a conference or stumbles across
a interesting article, book or vidoe they can easily and instantly post
it in the form of a Moodle or forum and othes can view it and also add
comments and thoughts. Schools can connect with other schools around
the world with the technology and have class discussion or share whats
happening in their part of the world. Technology is important and can
be utilized in so many ways in a school seeting.

  8. Technology is a relatively new concept being implemented into our
schools on a daily basis. Technology is a developing technique that
we as educators are using to run our classrooms, implement curriculum
and communicate a lot easier. Technology provides extra time to
absorb new ideas and information that we can present to fellow
colleagues. These new advances into the technology spectrum permit
the school community to receive information and provide feedback in an
interactive way that is well-organized and consistent. Faculty
meetings can incorporate technology in a way to stay on task as well
as increase the productivity of the meetings. It can bring the
meeting home with the teacher in a way that can enhance new ideas. We
can also set up blogs such as this one to share ideas and continue the
thoughts and opinions well after the meeting is over, in preparation
for the next one. Technology is changing the way we learn and grow as
educators but most importantly the way it contributes to the learning
    environment for our students.

  9. I see the majority of you are in favor of the use of technology. I like how many of you stated the fact that sharing information or having access to the information right away on a wiki, etc is a great idea. I really do find that with all the things we have to do in education, our time is limited. Anything that can help to share ideas quickly and effectively is well worth it!

  10. While many people often point out the issues that technology in the classroom brings with it, I believe that the benefits greatly outweigh the negative aspects. With sites like Moodle and blogs, teachers and students can interact on a level rarely seen before and at any time. While face to face interaction still has its value in the classroom, many students benefit with some extra assistance, and rather than the teacher sitting down with each individual student and discussing the same thing with each one, the teacher can now hold an online forum where neither party is pressed for time or feels neglected. One of my favorite examples of this is the Ask Me Anything (AMA) threads on Reddit. Classrooms could benefit greatly from a similar format

  11. In the osciety we live in today technology plays major role in the lives of adults and in the lives of children. Now a days almost all children in elementary school have access to technology such as phones, computers, the internet and etc. In the teaching world one strategy that is widely used to gain the students' attention and help them learn new subjects is to relate the subject to things that the student's enjoy. Since most children now a days enjoy messing with technology teachers need to incorporate technology into their lessons. Technology in the educational system is not only beneficial for the learners but also very beneficial to the teachers and the staff of the school. Teachers can use technology to communicate with each other in and outside of the school setting. Teachers can share files instantly over the internet and work on projects together without being in the same location.
